← 50-State Voter Guide project

Systematized illustration · civic

The 50-state voter guide, broken down.

One card component, re-rendered fifty times. This page shows the split that made it possible: what stays constant across every state (grid, type, the five civic icons) versus what varies per state (a custom illustration, the region accent, and the real figures) — with the card rebuilt live so you can page through all fifty.

The state card

One card, fifty states — rebuilt live

The real deliverable: the per-state card, driven by data. Pick any state from the 50-tile selector; constants hold, the region accent / electoral votes / illustration are the per-state variable. Electoral votes are exact (2024 apportionment); regions are U.S. Census regions.

Civic lexicon

The terms the guide teaches

Eligible electorate
Citizens 18+ — the real denominator behind the word “voters.”
Registration deadline
The per-state cutoff to register for a given election — a headline field on each card.
Ballot access
How a voter can cast — in-person, early, or mail-in — which varies by state.
Electoral votes
A state's weight in the presidential result (2024 apportionment, on every card).
CVAP
Citizen voting-age population — the ACS measure behind per-state eligibility.
Civic literacy
The guide's actual product: making the rules legible, state by state.

Reconstruction for portfolio purposes. The 50-state voter guide — a custom illustration and civic-data card per state — was designed by Leonel Gomez for Dominicanos USA. The card above is a live React rebuild of that component, not the production artwork.

Electoral-vote counts are exact (2024 apportionment); regional groupings follow the U.S. Census Bureau. Per-state illustrations and ACS figures are supplied separately — until then those slots render as labeled placeholders.
